Signature's Internship Program offers the opportunity to work alongside professional artists and managers at the forefront of New York not-for-profit theatre. Through full-time and part-time internships, we seek to provide learning opportunities for undergraduates, recent college graduates, and graduate students, who are eager to acquire hands-on experience in not-for-profit theatre administration or production. Signature's Internship Program is intended for candidates who also possess the ability to work independently, as well as a collaborative spirit.
A Signature Intern
An essential goal of our Internship Program is to equip you with marketable skills by assigning project-specific tasks, under the guidance of your department staff. A Signature intern will gain experience primarily through these projects, and by handling various day-to-day administrative duties. As a Signature intern, you are completely integrated in the daily functions of the company and are treated as a member of our staff. In return, we expect a high standard of performance and an eagerness to learn. You will work closely with your designated department, participating in all department meetings, as well as all full-staff events and special events, which include but are not limited to:
- First Rehearsals
- Invited Dress Rehearsals
- Opening & Closing Nights
- Signature Alumni Nights
- Annual Gala
- Full-Staff Meetings
- Staff & Artist Talkbacks
VIP Brown-Bag Lunches
Bring your lunch and sit down for a chat with Signature's artistic & executive directors, department heads, as well as guest artists and industry professionals. At these monthly chats, interns get a chance to ask questions and get to know these seasoned theatre professionals in an informal atmosphere.
Signature Mentorship
Each intern is paired with a mentor from outside their department after the first month of their internship. As interns get acclimated to their specific departments, they typically express a desire to learn more about other areas of the company. Through regular check-ins with the internship coordinator, interns get a chance to express any new interests and make requests for a mentor.
Benefits of a Signature Intern
- A weekly stipend
- Complimentary tickets to all Signature productions
- Complimentary and discounted tickets to shows throughout New York City
