Production Manager

Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading Off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a Production Manager to help us on a project basis beginning immediately. The Production Manager will be assigned a specific production in our season and report to our Director of Production.

In this temporary role, the Production Manager oversees all production aspects for a show from design through its execution and subsequent run.  The Production Manager plays an integral part in the design and execution of all production elements working closely with a diverse artistic Team which includes the Design Team, the Director and the Playwright. Working together with Signature Theatre’s Artistic Line Producer the two work to ensure a cost effective and timely delivery of all production elements. The Production Manager will also ensure a proper maintenance schedule is created and maintained for all production elements during the run of each production.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Artistic Line Producer maintain open communications between Designers, Director and Department Supervisors throughout the design and bid process
  • Work collaboratively with Artistic Line Producer, Designer and Department Supervisors to achieve the highest possible artistic standards within the available budget.
  • Work with Department Supervisors on the logistics of planning, organization and scheduling for load in, tech, run and load out of each production
  • Work with Design Team and Artistic Line Producer to determine run crew needs and works with Department Supervisors to hire all run crew
  • Create the schedules for load in, work calls during technical and preview rehearsals, and load out for each production
  • Oversee the load in and load out of each production and make sure deadlines and schedules are met
  • Keep in touch with the Production Stage Manager during rehearsals and run to ensure all needs are met within the available budget.
  • Actively communicate with all Signature Theatre departments as necessary about developments in the process that may affect them.
  • Coordinate production elements for all ancillary events such as Page to Stage, Talk Backs, and other supplementary programs for each production

 
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of Production Management or equivalent experience in the managing of production elements from concept to execution. The ideal candidate would also have strong communication, organization, time management and collaborative skills.
 
This is a temporary position, paid a weekly salary. The position would not be benefits eligible. Preference is given to candidates who have demonstrable experience advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Technical Director

Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a Technical Director to join the production team and report to the Director of Production and Facilities.

In 2012, Signature Theatre opened the Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices. The center is not only home to Signature’s productions but also rentals throughout the calendar year. In FY19, over 150 different productions and events rented space in the center.  

Signature Theatre seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative Technical Director who, in conjunction with Signature Theatre’s production and artistic departments, supports the directors’ and designers’ vision and maintains Signature Theatre’s high artistic and production standards. The Technical Director also works closely with Signature Theatre’s rentals department to coordinate technical support for numerous rentals throughout the year. The successful Technical Director will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills working within a high-performance environment.

We are looking for someone who possesses:

  • Three or more years as a Technical Director or in a related position providing equivalent experience
  • Broad knowledge of construction techniques including, but not limited to, rigging, automation, pneumatics and engineering as it relates to technical designs
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye to detail
  • Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent written/communication/interpersonal skills to support smooth interactions with internal and external clients
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills


Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with designers to assemble detailed bid packages, present to shops and mediate bids with a keen eye towards fiscal responsibility
  • Maintain clear communication within the production department to ensure successful integration of a show’s technical elements
  • Attend all design presentations, meetings, rehearsals and run-throughs as designated by the production manager
  • Estimate and track labor and design costs for each production and advise artistic production management of the potential consequences of proposed changes
  • Provide supervision for all load-in and work calls during the production process coordinating activity with other department heads
  • Hire and manage over hire crews as needed
  • Coordinate ongoing maintenance of all scenic elements including automation and effects equipment throughout the run
  • Ensure theatrical systems and theatre spaces are maintained and kept in proper working order
  • Provide support to rental entities as needed; including, but not limited to scenic, rigging, SFX and automation consultation and venue prep
  • Work closely with the Director of Production and Facilities to support ongoing needs of the Pershing Square Signature Center
  • Ensure annual maintenance of rigging systems in theatres and studios
  • Maintain CAD drawings for theatres, studios and public spaces
  • Maintain all Prop Shop equipment and inventory
  • Maintain clean and safe work practices throughout the Center, its theatres and support spaces

Company Manager

Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a Company Manager.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Company Manager’s responsibilities include:  

  • Serve as liaison between artists, management and production personnel for all Signature productions
  • Draft and administer actor contracts and correspond with artist representatives and unions
  • Provide onsite coverage at rehearsals and performances, including evenings, weekends and holidays, to respond to ongoing needs of each company
  • Manage travel, accommodations, artist visas, and other special needs of out of town artists
  • Process all house seat and company ticket requests utilizing Tessitura and manage ticket inventory in conjunction with Marketing and the box office
  • Process and distribute weekly company payroll and generate union reports
  • Track expenses and reconcile company management budget
  • Communicate company policies to artists and Signature staff
  • Organize company events including meet and greets, opening and closing nights and other special events as needed
  • Maintain and update Signature Alumni database and foster ongoing relationships with Alumni
  • Provide administrative support for overall departmental needs


Candidate will preferably have at least two (2) years of professional experience working in theatrical management, or other comparable experience.

The ideal candidate will be a strong team player who works well with others, shows grace under pressure, and possesses great attention to detail with strong organizational, written, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Tessitura or other ticketing software and Microsoft Office is a plus.

Facilities Manager

Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a Facilities Manager to join the facilities team and report to the Director of Production and Facilities.

The Facilities Manager oversees all aspects of operating and maintaining the center. Working closely with the administrative, production and rental departments to coordinate day-to-day operations and minor projects, The Facilities Manager ensures that facilities functions are incorporated effectively into the performance and events schedule while maintaining and emphasizing facilities policies and procedures. The center is not only home to Signature’s production but also rentals throughout the calendar year. In FY19, over 150 different productions and events rented space in the center. 

We are looking for someone who possesses: 

  • Minimum three years’ experience managing/assistant managing the operations of a large, multi-use facility
  • Excellent communication/ interpersonal skills to support smooth interactions with internal and external clients
  • Willingness to ask questions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an eye to detail
  • Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Has knowledge of:
    • Automated BMS, CCTV, CMMS and trouble ticket systems
    • Mechanical, Electrical Plumbing (MEP) systems
    • HVAC systems
    • Building codes
  • Exposure to theatre/live performance operations preferred


Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure the operation and maintenance of the center are in line with Signature Theatre’s mission while adhering to center procedures, policies, safety codes
  • Evaluate and effectively implement solutions to onsite technical issues with all center systems, including MEP, HVAC, CCTV and key card systems
  • Coordinate all external vendor and maintenance scheduling
  • Manage security team, maintenance personnel and on-site contractors
  • Work with Production, General Management and Rental departments to coordinate resources and address challenges pertaining to theatre production and operations
  • Ensure task lists for porters and cleaning are generated and work is completed
  • Develop and maintain vendor contracts
  • Create and manage budgets
  • Respond to off-hours emergencies, reporting on-site when required
  • Plan and manage construction projects as they arise
  • Manage key and keycard tracking systems
  • Schedule HVAC for all activities in the center

Director of Marketing and Audience Services

Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a Director of Marketing and Audience Services to join the senior leadership team and report to the Executive Director.

The Director of Marketing and Audience Services leads a team of 10 responsible for strategic planning and execution of all sales and communication efforts; printed and digital collateral; advertising, media and public relations plans; subscriber relations/events; web and digital media efforts; outreach and audience development; brand consistency and more. The position also oversees the Tessitura Operations Manager, the Box Office and Front of House staff, as well as the operations of the Bookstore and Cafe/Bar. 

SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS: 

  • Manage Marketing and Audience Service budgets, including budgets for Signature Café and Bar and Signature Bookstore
  • Direct and manage all brand strategy initiatives, ensuring brand governance, consistency and quality
  • Develop all subscription, group sales and single ticket sales initiatives
  • Plan and execute all advertising and marketing campaigns for a diverse spectrum of programs and projects, including development of key art for Signature productions, creating and managing schedules and budgets, and supervising all media buys with various outlets including print, radio, television, outdoor, and digital
  • Plan all direct mail campaigns, including list exchanges and rentals
  • Develop targeted grassroots and community outreach initiatives in support of Signature’s programming and Signature Ticket Initiative
  • Oversee all printed and digital design projects with outside designers and printing vendors, including projects for the Development, Artistic and Rentals departments
  • Lead all audience development efforts, including market research and audience surveys
  • Liaise with outside public relations firm, collaborating on overall press strategy. Manage all press releases, coordinating with artists for press opportunities, onsite press events, photo shoots and press performances
  • Oversee all editorial content, including Playbill and dramaturgical show panels
  • Oversee all digital media initiatives, including photography, videography, and other recordings for artistic programs, historic content, and archival documentation.
  • Assisting with the development of rental business strategies, budget projections, and ongoing program development
  • Oversee all organic and paid social media initiatives and all eblast communications
  • Oversee maintenance and development of Signature’s website and ticketing systems
  • Develop and execute visitor research surveys and manage other related data points including generated impressions and attendance statistics. Report on Signature data as well as industry trends to management teams and stakeholders.
  • Co-executive produce all supplemental programs, including social events, pre and post-performance talks and lectures, panel discussions, etc.
  • Set pricing agenda, including strategizing and facilitating dynamic pricing initiatives and inventory management for all productions
  • Oversee all signage at The Pershing Square Signature Center, including digital signage
  • Direct all box office operations, including customer service
  • Direct front of house operations in support of both Signature and rental productions
  • Oversee the operation of Signature Café and Bar in partnership with café operator
  • Oversee the operation of Signature Bookstore, as well as merchandise development


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented professional who thrives in an intense, high-quality, fast-paced work environment. Specifically, s/he/they must have:

  • Significant track record of progressively responsible experience in marketing/advertising for not-for-profit institutions in the visual or performing arts
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marketing and communication concepts, practices, and techniques in all formats
  • Strong knowledge of sales, pricing and ticketing strategies
  • Successful experience developing and managing budgets, overseeing design and execution of marketing materials, and implementing marketing plans
  • Strong knowledge of print production process, media planning, buying, and performance analysis

Security Officer

Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an experienced, organized, detailed Security Officer for our Frank Gehry-designed, 75,000 square foot center comprising three theaters, two rehearsal studios, a public lobby with a café and bookstore, and administrative offices.

Reporting to the Security Supervisor and to Facilities Management, the Security Officer assists in overseeing all aspects of the Center’s safety and security needs, ensuring the building runs efficiently and in compliance with policies, procedures and codes. The Security Officer will assist with on-boarding, supervising and training security vendor officers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Open the Center at beginning of building operations
  • Secure building at the end of operations
  • Carry out security bag check
  • Tour mechanical rooms and all doors, inspecting equipment, and access points
  • Reporting all security and safety concerns to Security Supervisor /Facilities Management
  • Responding immediately to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and guests, while also communicating with Security Supervisor /Facilities Management
  • Patrolling public premises regularly to maintain order and establish presence
  • Directing and escorting deliveries, vendors and guests around the Center
  • Managing keycard, security CCTV, security tracking systems
  • Assisting with supervising outside venders Officers
  • Assisting with enforcing security policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with the coordination between Security Vendor Officer and Signature Theatre
  • Attending monthly security meetings
  • Building relationships with the neighborhood NYPD and FDNY sectors
 

Required Certifications:

  • Valid New York State Department of State Security Guard License

Desired Certifications:

  • CPR, AED, and First-Aid
  • Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (FDNY F-03)
  • Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Other Related Systems (FDNY S-95)
  • Active shooter training

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum four years’ experience in a security supervisor role
