Over a year after closing our doors, Signature Theatre is excited to present The Watering Hole, an immersive experience envisioned by resident playwright Lynn Nottage, director Miranda Haymon, and a renowned group of creative designers. This grand experiment deviates from the norm, presenting a new kind of theatre—one that is collaborative, accessible and safe.

In-person, physically distanced audiences will move through a series of installations entirely curated by creatives of color at the beloved Pershing Square Signature Center. The multidimensional and multidisciplinary pieces disrupt traditional notions of theatre-making and challenge viewers to converse with what is most essential to us all, water. Excerpts from the in-person experience will also be available online in order to bring The Watering Hole to as far an audience as possible.

Following hit runs of Fabulation, or The Re-Education of Undine and By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, The Watering Hole culminates Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage’s residency at Signature Theatre.

How to Buy Tickets 

This is a mobile/walking experience through 10 installations with seating available in several locations throughout the track. The event is estimated to last 80 minutes with a total traveled distance of 1,320 feet.

MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND PATRONS 

We’re happy to offer one day of early booking to any current Member, Friend and Patron. Please note this event is not a part of our 21–22 production season and is not included as part of your benefits. Standard ticketing fees apply. 

PAIRS AND GROUPS  

If you would like to attend with another person or a group (max 4), you must all select a slot for the same time and same track (A or B). You may book up to four slots on the same track to attend as a group. Please include a name for the group reservation if you are purchasing separately from your group.  Groups 4+: If you purchase more than 4 tickets for the same time, your group will be split into different tracks, but will start/end at approximately the same time.  

Due to timed entry and physical distancing requirements, we cannot guarantee exact start times and we cannot guarantee we will be able to keep your group together. Please arrive with your group on time together for best chance of same-time entry and exit.  

Tracks A and B will both experience all installations, but in a different order. There is no difference in quality of experience between the tracks.  

SOLD-OUT WAIT LIST  

If all slots are sold out on the day you would like to attend, you may join our digital waitlist by selecting the date of your choice and "Wait List" ticket option. You will be contacted by Ticket Services if slots become available. Unfortunately, we cannot make predictions regarding the waitlist and ask that audiences wait to be contacted before arriving at the theater. 

EXCHANGES, CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS 

If you feel ill prior to arrival, please stay home and contact Ticket Services for a free exchange to another date. If you are unable to attend or use your tickets, please consider donating the value back to the theatre, or introduce a friend to Signature by emailing them your digital tickets. If these options aren't possible, please contact Ticket Services for a refund or ticket exchange up to 2 hours prior to your reservation time. All exchanges are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.

CHOOSE WHAT YOU PAY 

Access is a core value and commitment at Signature. Several blocks through the run are “Choose What You Pay”. For all blocks on Tue-Thu and the first block on Fri-Sat, you can select a price that best aligns with what you can afford. If you can afford to pay part of the price, or full price, and the fee, we highly encourage you to do so, as well as make a gift to help us maintain affordable tickets. A $6.50 fee applies to all tickets, however if this fee is a barrier to your attendance, please use code NOBARRIERS to waive the fee.  

No matter what you are able to afford, know that we value your support and presence this very special event.  
 

How to Attend 

ARRIVAL TIME 

We strongly encourage you to arrive a minimum 15 minutes before your reservation time. You must complete a COVID-19 Screening and a temperature check before you begin. You will receive a COVID-19 Screening and Access Needs Survey by email within 72 hours of your reservation. We strongly recommend completing the screening (required) and survey (optional)  prior to your arrival to avoid any delays. Wristbands will be distributed that must be worn throughout the experience.

We recommend using the restroom prior to arrival. Restrooms will be available onsite; however this will take away time from your experience. 

The experience runs 80 minutes with no intermission. In order to maintain proper physical distancing, your slot will not begin until it is cleared of the previous entry group, therefore your track slot may not start right at the start of your reservation time. 

TICKETS 

All tickets will be issued by digitally shortly after purchase; mobile tickets via email with a link to log in to your account at order.signaturetheatre.org/account/login, and print-at-home via email PDF attachment. Tickets will be scanned by staff upon entry. There is no physical will call available.

LATE ARRIVALS 

Late arrival accomodations are subject to availability. If you arrive past your time, your slot may be given to the next group. If we are not sold out, you may be admitted in at a later time slot as availability and capacity permits. If we cannot accommodate you for another time that day, Ticket Services will help schedule a free exchange, subject to availability.

COVID-19 Health & Safety

Our plans are subject to change as CDC, state and city guidelines develop. Our current plans for June 2021 are to require physical distancing and masking. At this time, we are not planning to require proof of vaccination and/or negative test results for guests, as we want to maintain equitable access for audiences.  Any changes to guidelines from time of purchase will be communicated by email to all ticket holders.

  • Limited capacity strictly enforced, up to 100 people in the building at any given time

  • Masks required at all times (both audience and staff), regardless of vaccine status

  • All guests must complete a COVID-19 Screening and a temperature check before proceeding into the event

  • Physical distancing between groups will be enforced

  • Restrooms available with limited capacity

  • Food and drink not available

Virtual Access

We recognize that not everyone will be able to or will feel comfortable returning to in-person events. A virtual glimpse into the installations will be made available in the final weeks of the run.
